How to create a professional invoice
Aug 1, 2026 · 5 min read
A clear invoice gets you paid faster. At a minimum it should show who is billing whom, a unique invoice number, the date, an itemised list of what you delivered, and the total due — plus how and by when to pay.
Start with your details and your client's: names, addresses and contact information. Add an invoice number you can track (many people use the year plus a running count, like 2026-001) and both the issue date and the due date.
List each item or service on its own line with a quantity, a unit price and a line total. Show the subtotal, any tax, and the final amount due in bold so it is impossible to miss. If relevant, add payment terms and your bank or payment details.
You do not need accounting software for this. Our free invoice generator builds a clean, professional PDF in your browser — no signup, no watermark. Fill in the form, watch the live preview, and download.
